Greeting from the Proprietor
It is a pleasure to meet you. I am Shinnosuke Takahira, the proprietor of Shioka-no-Yado Takahiraya. Thank you for your interest in our inn among so many others.
At Takahiraya, we cherish the philosophy of “etching the time you spend with your loved ones into a memory filled with true emotion.”
What we offer goes beyond merely “delicious cuisine” or a “quality space.”
What our guests seek during their special occasions is not just a place to dine, but a sanctuary to express gratitude for the past and to deepen the bonds for the future.
It is our heartfelt wish that the moments spent here will remain etched in your family’s hearts as irreplaceable memories.
Shioka-no-Yado Takahiraya aspires to be more than just a place to eat—we strive to be a sanctuary where hearts can truly connect and share their deepest feelings.
―――The Origin of My Culinary Journey―――
The Origin of My Culinary Journey
My journey as a chef began with a simple dish I made for my younger brother: tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet).
When I was young, my parents took over "Marukin," a local diner originally run by my grandmother. My hometown, Kitaura, is a vibrant fishing town known for its thriving purse seine fishing, and Marukin was always bustling with customers. Naturally, my parents were busy in the kitchen from morning till night, often leaving us to fend for ourselves for meals.
One day, when I was in elementary school, my little brother came to me and said, "Big brother, I'm hungry! Can you make me something?"
Though I had never cooked before, I answered, "You got it! Leave it to me!" and managed to make him some tamagoyaki just by watching my parents.
As soon as he took a bite, his eyes lit up and he exclaimed, "This is delicious!" as he devoured it.
Seeing the joy on his face, I realized, even as a child, that I could make someone smile through the food I created. That moment was the true beginning of my life as a chef.
Thankfully, I am still walking that same path today. Seeing our guests happy and enjoying our food is, and will always be, my greatest joy.
―――The beginning of Shioka no Yado Takahiraya―――
In 2004, a community-revitalization event called the "East Kyushu Ise-Lobster Highway" was held, connecting the former town of Kitaura, Miyazaki, with the former town of Kamae, Oita. This event served as a catalyst, drawing many new visitors to our diner, "Ryori-dokoro Marukin."
Amidst this, we began to hear many of our guests say, "We would love to stay longer and enjoy this wonderful food at a more leisurely pace."
Encouraged by these warm words, we opened "Shioka-no-Yado Takahiraya"—a "culinary inn" where you can stay—in 2013.
Beyond Just a Meal—A Journey to Remember
What we offer is more than just "accommodation." Our goal is to provide you with "a time of richness" and "a space of comfort." Through these, we strive to deliver moments of true relaxation, honoring each guest’s own pace with a thoughtful and gentle touch.
Here are some of the kind words we have received from our guests:
-
"The service was wonderful, and I felt truly relaxed."
-
"The cleanliness is impeccable; it is so comfortable here."
-
"The food was served piping hot—it was absolutely delicious."
It is your smiles and these kind words that have sustained us on our journey to this day. There is no greater joy for us than to hear you say, "I want to come back" or "I want to share this place with someone special."
Step away from the everyday and immerse yourself in a richness you can only find here. We sincerely look forward to the day we can welcome you to Shioka-no-Yado Takahiraya.
―――Our hospitality―――
